Chapter 72

Comments

  1. YES!!! I also thought that if we knew Jung's side of the story everyone who's been highly suspicious of his actions get a slap to the face. I never really believed he was a bad person, he was really misunderstood. I found it odd how people disliked him for being "two-faced", when in reality everybody shows different sides of themselves to different people, and Jung is no different.
His crying from this and the previous chapter though. It looks so heartbreaking.

    1. Nah, he's not angry. He's just so vulnerable that he had to try to control his facial expression or to stop crying.

    1. He looks kinda angry to me.. I'm probably seeing it wrong tho

    2. At the very least he looks very serious. So he is wondering everyday why he's been trying to get close to her and there is another reason on top of the fact that he likes her? I think that's where the conversation is headed...

      Delete
    3. After all that time thinking he was being weird, approaching her some ulterior motive, or liking her in some creepy way, it turns out he was just a guy with a crush. Butterflies in his stomach, not quite able to not think about her. And probably, considering it's Jung, it was his first crush, so he really didn't quite get it.

    4. ^I love that description about Jung. Fits perfectly well with his character. <3

    5. Jonathan Lovelace, your comment captures it all. If things go downhill from here I might just contact Sul myself and make her read this entire CITT thing.

  3. Thank you so much for your hard work! Is Sul able to hear all of his narration? It's hard to tell if Jung's thinking it all or saying it out loud but it looks like Sul heard it.

    1. I'm wondering that too. Since it's a white background it's not a flashback.
And it seems like Jung is narrating this to Sul.

  4. AND WHAT?! "and I wanted you to like me as much"?I hope he doesn't say nonsense I mean he looks very angry :( but anyway it's great that he's sincere with Sul. Right now he's the most real "him". No fake smile, no hiding thoughts... I just hope it'll be okay.

  7. Jung who was always forced by his dad to concede and let go of things he like for other sake or courtesy and wasn't
allowed to show any selfish desire he is experiencing for the first time things he want strongly and can't give them up to anyone. And now even though he think he brings Sul harm and he just want to make her happy he can't help but reach out for her and still want to be close to her but he has his sense of wrongness because it is something he never experienced before to put what he want first before other's sake or what is right and treated as weird every time he didn't give people what they want. i hope someone will assure him it is okay if he act selfish sometime or commit mistake that is make him human not a weird person.

    1. Your analysis is bang on, just too many run on sentences. But I completely agree with you, one of the biggest problems that Sul and Jung have are because of Jung's inability to tell her that he wants/doesn't want something or that he likes/dislikes something. He always manipulates and goes the wrong way to get the things he wants because of the way he was conditioned by his asshole father. So hopefully Jung can overcome this major barrier in the next episode and tell Sul exactly what he wants, just the way it is in his heart. I'd love for Jung to open up and reach for that immense love that he deserves. I mean, how can you not love him (Imo) when he's so sweet to the few people that make an effort to understand and be there for him. <3 <3

  11. What is it that he hates and thinks about dozens of times every day. Her being friends with Inho?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The "That alone, I hate" box in Korean is referring to the time when he told Sul that he was satisfied with just getting to know her little by little. But then after seeing that picture of her with Inho, he realized that he's not ok with just that anymore; he wants her to be his girl only. So I'm guessing what he was thinking about dozens of times every day was whether or not he should make the first move, and how he should go about it?

      Delete
    2. thank you for the explanation, i thought he was saying "the thing i hate" meant "sul" XD

    3. Lol yeah he's not talking about Sul because at that point, he no longer disliked Sul

    4. What he thought dozens time was 'Why I am doing this?'

      Delete
    5. Sorry guys, because black boxes are important I try to respect the literal translation as much as possible instead of just writing what it really means.

The part about "That one thing I hate" Jung is saying "That's the one thing I won't allow" referring to Inho stealing Sul for himself.

And I'm pretty sure the thing(s) he thinks about all the time are 1) Why am I doing this? and 2) About Sul herself -Implied by the images of Sul right after-

    1. I know, that petty jealousy is so cute (I find it soooo endearing) and it highlights how much he really wants and loves Sul. I can almost feel the ache he has for Sul, ah what a lucky girl Sul is and how I wish I were her. I really, really, really, really hope it's not the end for them! I want a happily everafter for Jung's sake atleast, I want to see him married with kids. I'd love to see what kind of father he becomes!!

  17. Thank you for translating it so quickly. Can't believe the author is going to leave us for a week with the " so..." : "so" what? What???
It was nice to see Jung's point of view and I am glad that he seems to be really in love with Sul, however I still find him, generally speaking, scary. When things don't go his way Jung goes mental and does pretty nasty things to others, he still manipulates people, still lies ( or cover the truth, apart maybe this last two chapters). If this was real life I would still say to Sul " Nope, get away".

    ReplyDelete

    1. But don't you see, Jung is realizing that his methods are not exactly right and he's starting to see the truth about his father. Sul is helping Jung grow as a person and both of them are healing each other in unique ways. Jung gives Sul the attention and love that she lacks and Sul is showing Jung how to become more "normal" aka less manipulative and more straightforward with his feelings. They're both perfect for each other as they complete each other in a sense and this meaningful bond of overcoming things together itself is extremely strong. Jung's behaviour is not really his fault (I'm in no way justifying his actions though, they are pretty sociopathic) and Sul is helping Jung see that he can change his behaviour to become a better person. That's the whole point of this drama, that no one is perfect and it's ok to ask for help from people that you love. I'd personally be extremely disappointed if Sul avoids Jung and pushes him away, then the whole story and the character development/events will have been for naught.

      Delete
    2. In a drama I can accept that someone can change for love but in real life I would be more skeptical and I would say that those kind of changes are rare. I do agree that no one is perfect and that others can help us and our development but a real guy with Jung's personality and past... dunno. I am a really cynical person so it's hard for me to be that optimistic. Anyway, I don't particularly support any ending or shipping ( I will accept everything ), I do think that probably the author will go with the "Sul and Jung are perfect for each other in their own way" kind of end, my disbelief in this kind of finale was strictly about a similar a real life situation.

      Delete
    3. I'm with you all the way. The whole reason I've been captivated by Cheese in the Trap is because, to me, it has felt like a very sensitive and realistic exploration of how and why people fall in love with the wrong partner. I love the way that Jung has been so well fleshed out and sympathetic. I also think it is rare for a person like him to change behaviour but I am on board if the author plans to go in that direction. As long as the quality of the writing remains as high as it has been throughout the series I will follow the author to wherever the ending goes.

      Delete
    4. Guys, do me a favor and don't throw the word sociopathic around like that. It's in your right to find Jung scary, weird, bad etc etc and think of his methods as cruel or overboard but if you think he acts like a sociopath then you don't understand the definition of the word. He does have a conscience and he does feel guilt, something like sociopathic tendencies are not a selective thing that the person can turn on or off or that only manifest themselves towards certain people and not towards others (like Sul). It can't be controlled.

And again you can call Jung's methods mental, scary or even overboard but whether you justify them or not Jung most certainly doesn't go attacking people when "things don't go his way" or just for the kick of it. There is always a reason and he is never the one to start, he is also not easily provoked, you have to work damn hard to show up on his radar. But I'm not saying that he's simply "misunderstood" that's way too naive.

I myself, I'm cynical and I can tell you, I think waiting for Jung's personality to change is a waste of time. It's not a matter of being optimistic it's just that Jung's personality is not supposed to change, that's who he is. The changes I've heard people describe, that they want to see in Jung, are not reasonable, they describe a person who is in essence different to Jung, that's not happening, never. Sul either takes him as he currently is or leaves him and both are fine, but it's totally up to her.
The end doesn't have to be realistic to the real world, it just have to be realistic to the world the charactes live in. It's a webtoon and as similar as it gets to real struggles of life, the situations are very exaggerated. Where the plot stands, Soonki can make many scenarios to be credible according to what she has shown us.

      Delete
    5. I agree. I don't think he needs to change. He usually goes after people who are usually out to get him. The only reason that can even be seen as bad is when he makes a bad mistake in judgement lie when he was treating Sul badly. I feel like Sul also has to learn accept him. At most he needs to learn how to let the little things go(though so far I'm supportive of pretty much everything he's done). So far if there's any flaw that he really needs to work on it's his jealousy and the way he tends to sometimes jump to conclusions which usually makes him mad at Sul. They just need to communicate more and she needs to stop looking at him weird when he's being sneaky(She's not very subtle with her reactions).

      Delete
  18. I wonder why he is really patient and polite..why he is not express directly of his feeling to Sul..and sometimes just waiting for her action...OMG..he thinking Sul is like a rabbit...sometimes run and afraid....

    1. Wait, I'm curious what about the homeless woman? they already cleared that one up way back in season 2 didn't they?

I don't think there are actual "secrets" left about what Jung did that Sul doesn't know about. At least nothing comes to my mind ◉_◉ .

      Delete
    2. I don't know if he is going to confess something like that, but... it always bothered me that Jung was there recording when Sul got attacked by that stalker guy. He should have stepped in to help but he decided it was more important to get evidence. That was dangerous. I'm pretty sure that Sul has never found out about that video. I think Jung has sometimes paid that one guy at the university that he's friendly with to keep an eye on her, too.

      Delete
    3. Say what!? no you got it totally wrong, Jung was not there recording Oh Young Gon attack Sul (What kind of asshole do you think he is?). Jung paid Inha to follow Young Gon around and collect evidence against him to protect Sul. It was Inha the one there and she was the one who send the video to Jung (way later at that) haha.

That's some misunderstanding you had going there.

And Jung probably did ask Kyan Hwan and Jae Woo to look after Sul but they are both good guys, Kyan Hwan is just protecting his friend's girlfriend.

    4. You know what? That makes sense! I didn't make the connection when Inha walked into the restaurant right after lol.

  22. As someone who is really into psycology, i'd like to say: Soonkki did a great research before creating this webtoon's characters and its history. It's really AMAZING. In this chapter, per exemple, Jung notices that Sol doesn't even looks at him ( because she's doesn't like him) and do the VERY, VERY MANIPULATING ACTION: asks for somethings small, in this case, if she could borrow him a pen. When i read this i got goosebumps. By the way, if you think someone doesn't like you, ask her/him something that the person can't deny. Also, if you see someone (that doesn't like you) who needs something, even the smallest, borrow/ help her/him with a smile without they ask for it. the person will think that you weren't as bad as she/he thought :]
By the way, Sol in portuguese is Sun and her hair is orange, although I know it's just a coincidence, I think it's pretty cute :3

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why won't people give up on the idea that Jung is a manipulator? I think asking her to loan him the pen is a normal, intelligent, and creative way to get her attention. We ALL manipulate to some degree. Niiik, I'm glad that you see Jung the way I do. I've been in his court all along. He's been a victim, but has never groveled or whined about it. He sees the world darkly because of the way that HE has been manipulated, and by now we know that he has realized it all along. It's made him very unhappy, but it hasn't made him weird--as he may think now--or destroyed him. I think that he first started being interested in Sul was at the decoration thing. He saw that she was a hard worker, a self-starter, not a quitter. These are qualities that we know he had. By contrast everyone else (SanChul is the extreme of all of them.) found the quickest easiest ways to quit. She stayed until the end, even when she thought that even Jung had left. He immediately saw that she was not like all the others, and found an immediate respect and attraction for her. That is what turned him around. Anyway, thank you for all the hard work. As I've said, I was devastated when I thought I was going to have to wait months or a year for the oddsquad's translation.
